This poignant, beautifully voice-acted adventure is everything a sequel should be: emotionally satisfying, full of lovable old and new characters, and, just as Dory would want, utterly unforgettable. Show more Finding Dory's themes of teamwork, perseverance, family, friendship, and unconditional love are relatable for even the littlest kids. But in the end, the "happily ever after" adventure is still appropriate for viewers of virtually all ages, and Dory's story is ultimately uplifting, as is the movie's treatment of her disability, which is never ignored. There are other stressful separations between friends, too, as well as some peril and tense moments (like a predator giant squid the characters need to get away from and action-packed escape antics), as well as slapstick and near misses. until she forgets what she was looking for.
Like most Pixar movies, there are some very emotional moments, including an early montage in which young Dory - separated from her parents (a situation that may very well upset younger kids) - searches the ocean for them. This time, instead of a parent searching for a child, the story revolves around Dory looking for her family. I'm at the point where I trust Disney Animation more than Pixar, because Big Hero 6 was great and Zootopia is getting a great reception.Parents need to know that Finding Dory is the sequel to Pixar's 2003 classic Finding Nemo. As of right now, I can't tell if we're going to get Inside Out (like Finding Nemo, strong and relatable arcs) or a Good Dinosaur (played out arcs and cheap gags). So far, we've seen an emphasis on a comic relief side character. We haven't seen the movie yet, obviously, but Finding Nemo is great because of it's relatable arcs. Pretty much everything else is effective window dressing. In the end, they both meet having reconciled a lot, and they both appreciate each other more. In the meantime, Nemo learns his handicap doesn't necessarily make him helpless, and his Dad used it as an excuse to ask others to keep an extra close eye on his son. Then Nemo rebels against his Dad, and Marlin has to overcome his fears and general distrust of the ocean in order to save his son. Aided by her best buddy clownfish Marlin (Albert Brooks) and his son Nemo (Hayden Rolence) its a quest fraught with danger including a predatory giant squid. The first one opened with a really emotional scene that explains Marlin's over-protection towards Nemo. Thirteen years after Nemo was found, friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) sets off on a submarine adventure to find her parents years after she lost touch. I'm with you, it kind of looks watered down (pun!).
